About

Antonio Arango was born and raised in Medellín,
Colombia. The son of a watercolor artist, he was
introduced to painting early through observing his
mother’s work and receiving her guidance and
encouragement. Although largely self-taught and without
formal academic training in the arts, Arango developed his
artistic sensibility through experimentation and practice.
In his early years he explored various mediums, including
ceramics, pottery, and charcoal drawing, before
developing a deep interest in oil painting. Inspired by the
expressive possibilities of the medium and by artists such
as Joan Miró, Rembrandt van Rijn, Vincent van Gogh,
Pablo Picasso, and Salvador Dalí, he began painting in oils
in 1994, learning primarily through observation,
experimentation, and occasional guidance from fellow
painters.
Arango worked consistently in oil painting from 1994
through 2013. After a period devoted to other pursuits, he
returned to painting in 2022, resuming his exploration of
expressive color, gesture, and living subjects. Today, his
work reflects decades of personal engagement with
painting and a continued fascination with the emotional
power of color and form.
I a contemporary oil painter whose
vibrant compositions explore the emotional resonance of
color through expressive depictions of birds, flowers, and
human presence.
My work explores the emotional power of color and the
living presence of everyday subjects. Working primarily
in oil, I use expressive brushwork and layered pigments
to capture the vitality of birds, flowers, and human
figures.
These subjects are not only visual references but
symbols of attention, resilience, and quiet transformation.
Through color and gesture, I seek to reveal the subtle
energy that exists in ordinary moments of life and nature.
Influenced by the color traditions of Impressionism and
the immediacy of contemporary painting, my work invites
viewers to experience painting as a living encounter—
where color, movement, and form converge to create a
moment of emotional resonance.
